Project Summary
While the consequences of war conditions are more and more visible in cities around the world, the international community is still pursuing its bureaucratic conflict solving approach in order to find political compromises. To create an effective solution to improve the living conditions of urban refugees a more radical solution needs to be implemented. This project tries to trigger political participation of refugees through the use of iconic architecture and the power of physical representation in the public space.

The architectural solution draws attention to the presence and political oppression of urban refugees through creating a highly visible ensemble within the existing urban fabric, using a self-built symbolic structure and an ambiguous public program. On the one hand the design fulfils the daily individual and social needs of urban refugees, while on the other hand it slowly changes the role and rights of urban refugees in the city.
